Starting mid-April, Parks Operations is commencing their seasonal tree pruning program to remove or modify selected dead tree snags in the Muskoseepi Corridor and around O’Brien Lake.

Trail users in the area are asked to obey project signage in the area and avoid areas that have been sanctioned off to ensure safety of the public and workers.

The dead trees being pruned have been evaluated for hazard potential and will be entirely removed or modified to create wildlife habitat.

Modification involves removal of the top section of the tree to mitigate fall hazards while retaining a portion of the tree for wildlife habitat. The leftover portion of the dead tree is key to enhance wildlife diversity in the urban natural forest. It provides breeding habitat for sensitive species and encourages biodiversity in our natural urban forest.
