Grande Prairie, Alberta -  Two people are facing charges after leading police on a lengthy chase last week.

A 16 year old female has been charged with possession of property obtained by crime.

Matthew James BERGESON (35) of Hythe has been charged with numerous offences including:

  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime over $5000  
  • Theft of Motor Vehicle
  • Fail to stop for Police

In addition to the above charges stemming from the events of October 11, 2018, BERGESON has over 20 charges from other incidents that took place in Grande Prairie and Beaverlodge since September 30, 2018. Additional charges include:

  • Robbery
  • Arson
  • Mischief
  • Assault Causing Bodily Harm
  • Uttering Threats
  • Multiple firearms offences

As these matters are all before the courts, no further information will be provided.

Grande Prairie, Alberta - On Wednesday, October 10, 2018 at approximately 11:00 AM, RCMP were called to a report of a suspicious male whose vehicle was stuck in a ditch near Webster, AB. The caller reported the male was behaving erratically and left on foot with a female passenger.  Witnesses then saw the suspects flee the area on a quad.  Police attempted to intercept the quad but were unsuccessful.

Investigation revealed that the truck in the ditch was stolen and the quad was reported stolen soon after police encountered the suspects. Within moments a third report of a stolen truck was relayed to police. Police quickly located the vehicle and repeatedly attempted to intervene to arrest the suspects. The male suspect is known by police to be a dangerous offender. The suspects continued to evade police and RCMP enlisted air support in addition to RCMP Emergency Response Team Edmonton members and members from Spirit River, AB and Dawson Creek, BC. The vehicle was located from the sky and collided with two police vehicles before coming to a stop near Bonanza, AB.

A 35 year old male and a 16 year old female were arrested and remain in police custody.

Nobody was injured as a result of the incident.

Charges are pending.
