On Oct. 24 in the early morning hours, Fort St John RCMP located multi-jurisdictional offenders, Tyler Roherty and Bridget Capot Blanc, in the Cecil Lake area of BC, while driving a stolen vehicle.

In early August, Roherty was convicted of Operating a Motor Vehicle while Disqualified and Impaired operation of a Motor Vehicle and issued a 5-year driving Prohibition in Grande Prairie. In the same month in Grande Prairie, he was charged with Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle and Operation while Prohibited.

On Oct. 17, Roherty was charged with Possession of Stolen Property obtained by Crime. That same day Capot Blanc was released on an Undertaking for two counts of Possession of Property Obtained by Crime to attend court on Dec. 2.

On Oct. 24, Fort St John RCMP were aware that Roherty had a BC wide arrest warrant for Driving While Prohibited at the time they located him and attempted to conduct a traffic stop. Roherty and passenger Capot Blanc, fled in the stolen vehicle.

A spike belt was deployed by police and successfully deflated the front tires. Roherty continued to drive with deflated tires in efforts to avoid arrest and struck marked police vehicles before going into a ditch at low speed.

Both Roherty and Capot Blanc refused to exit the vehicle which was still running. The PDS service dog was utilized for arrest due to the suspect’s non-compliance with police commands.

Roherty and Capot Blanc were arrested on scene and transported to the hospital to be medically cleared before being released to police custody.

“I am proud of the proactive and productive investigation the Fort St John RCMP put into locating Roherty and Capot Blanc,” said Inspector Anthony Hanson, Officer in Charge of the Fort St John RCMP detachment. “I believed that Roherty’s arrest will substantially reduce the volume of property offences in the Peace Regions of BC and Alberta.”

Roherty faces charges for Possession of Property Obtained by Crime, Flight from Police, Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle and two counts of Operate while Prohibited. He was remanded in custody until Nov. 9.

Capot Blanc faces charges for Possession of Property Obtained by Crime and was released on a Release Order for court on Nov. 9.
