Crews finished slope and repair work on a section of Township Road 711 crossing Spring Creek.

The section of road has been reopened to traffic at 30 km/hr and is subject to a road ban of 50 per cent axle weight, 24-hours a day until further notice.

This preliminary work relieved pressure on the slide area, allowing water to flow through the culvert and traffic to safely resume travel on the section of road. With federal permits still outstanding, the complete bridge rehabilitation project is planned for the next construction season.

Earlier this year the section of Township Road 711 between Range Road 71 and Range Road 72 (also known as Spring Creek Road) was closed after repeated wet spring seasons resulted in a slumping slope, making the road and bridge unstable.

Because the project involves work on a road and surrounding slope that cross a body of water, permits are required from Fisheries and Oceans Canada. These permits are required for each new project, including repair work, that could impact bodies of water.

County Council approved $5 million for the tender to complete the repair work, which includes the work that was finished this season.
