The County of Grande Prairie is inviting residents to contribute their expertise and participate in local government by applying to sit on a board or committee.

Public members, also known as members at large, are needed to fill vacancies on the following boards and committees:

  • Agricultural Service Board
  • County Library Board
  • County – Hythe – Demmitt – Valhalla Recreation Advisory Board
  • Historic Resources Committee
  • Joint Assessment Review Board
  • West Grande Prairie County Solid Waste Authority

Boards and committees provide an important role in bringing elected Councillors and constituents together with the common goal of building and strengthening our community.

“The individuals serving on our various boards and committees play an essential role in our local government by bringing forward their unique perspectives and direct feedback from community-members,” says Reeve Leanne Beaupre. “Their contributions allow Council to make well-rounded decisions.”

Boards and committee members review information, weigh alternatives, and make recommendations to Council, allowing them to make more informed decisions with an efficient decision-making process.

Some boards and committees may also fill a quasi-judicial role, which means that the committee has the authority to make decisions and judgments as provided in the Municipal Government Act.

Interested individuals can learn more and apply for one or more of the available opportunities by visiting www.countygp.ab.ca/boards. Applications are open until Friday, September 30.

Council will appoint members at large to the various boards, committees and commissions at their annual Organizational Meeting on Monday, October 24.
