The latest national rent rankings from Rentals.ca had Grande Prairie as the 29th most expensive city to rent in October.

In the Swan City, the average one-bedroom property cost $984, while two-bedrooms averaged $1,168. Both these numbers are up from September, but still down from the previous year. The increase since September is 0.4% for one-bedrooms and 1.3% for two. One and two-bedrooms are down 2.7% and 3.2% respectively.

The average rent for all Canadian properties listed on Rentals.ca in October was $1,782 per month, down 8.1% annually, but up 0.7% from September 2020. Rent had remained steady for the previous four months.

Rentals.ca says that, “With the recent announcement that a COVID-19 vaccine could be available next year, and a commitment from the federal government to significantly boost immigration, consumer confidence and rental demand could start to increase, but not likely until the new year.”

They say that job losses are continuing to impact renters, more than owners, meaning the rental market isn’t safe in the short term.
