A new pro-life documentary is in the works, produced by a player on the New England Patriots.

Benjamin Watson says his documentary, Divided Hearts of America, began filming in May and is now in post-production.

The tight end recently marched in the annual March for Life, held Fri., Jan. 24, 2020, and has not been silent in the past about his pro-life beliefs nor his faith in God.

The film will feature 30 interviews with Americans, representing both pro-life and pro-choice perspectives. Various prominent figures will also feature in the documentary, including Alveda King, the niece of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr, reports Faithwire.

Budgeted at less than $1 million and partially financed by the Patriots player, Watson says his goal with the film is "to unveil the truth about abortion, the laws, the history, and where our country is headed.

"I believe in the sanctity of life, be it in the womb or on your deathbed. That’s my conviction. But with the film, I’ll engage those who disagree and hear their reasoning. The number one thing I’m looking for is empathy on both sides," Watson told the Hollywood Reporter in an interview.

Watson says the recent developments in the legislature concerning abortion in various states led to his decision to become involved in producing the documentary.

"Things are at a fever pitch," he says.

Watson, who has seven children, says he believes dissenting views should be respected and even encouraged. "There are many people in Hollywood who would consider themselves pro-life but they feel as though their viewpoint is unacceptable in the industry. No one should feel like their job is in danger because of their convictions on this issue."

Discussions are currently taking place regarding where the film will be viewable upon its release and Watson says they are in the process of talking with theatre and buying out theatre slots.

As his first experience with producing a film, Watson called the opportunity a "fun learning experience," and says he hopes it will not be his last.
