Northwestern Polytechnic and Grande Prairie Live Theatre (GPLT) recently inked a collaborative agreement that will connect the community partners for the next decade.

NWP President and CEO, Dr. Vanessa Sheane, and GPLT Board Chair, Rick Svendsen made the partnership official at the 62nd GPLT Season Reveal on May 26, 2024.

“NWP is honoured and immensely proud to be part of the region’s ever-growing arts presence,” says NWP President and CEO, Dr. Vanessa Sheane. “Along with serving our learning community, we very much see NWP as an incubator for creativity, friendships, and memories. This is a wonderful opportunity that will deliver value for years to come.”

The Douglas J. Cardinal Performing Arts Centre will now serve as the host venue for GPLT’s biannual musical theatre event. Every two years, for the next decade, community members will be able to take in the sights, stories, and songs in the signature curved theatre on NWP’s vibrant Grande Prairie campus.

“GPLT is extremely excited about this partnership. As board president, I am thrilled about this collaboration because it not only enriches our community, but also fosters accessibility to the arts and nurtures talent in the Grande Prairie area,” says GPLT President Rick Svendsen. “Staging bi-annual productions at the Douglas J. Cardinal Performing Arts Centre will provide a tremendous experience for our local performers. Together, we are building a vibrant cultural hub that welcomes all to experience the magic of theatre.”

Mark your calendars! GPLT’s first on-campus performance, Grease the Musical, will run from February 8 - 25, 2025. Tickets will be on sale at gplt.ca in the near future.
