Nitehawk Year-Round Adventure Park’s management and board of directors continuing to recover from the landslide in May that caused significant damage at the ski hill.

Work with Parkland Geotechnical Ltd., including a borehole plan to acquire soil samples and determine ground water levels, continues as ski hill personnel develop a long-term solution to stabilize the area and return it to full use by the 2021/22 winter season.

nd addresses the long-term future of the ski hill,” says General Manager Jonathan Clarkson. “Things will look different in many regards this season, including modified service at the restaurant and adaptations due to the current pandemic. We will do everything in our power to ensure our guests and partner groups continue to have a great time here.”

The landside struck on the west side of the hill May 19, impacting the Temptation run near Tower 4 of the lift. It then spread across the luge track and onto the Showoff run. It was powerful enough to move the chairlift towers, which have large concrete foundations under them, down the hill. Ongoing slope monitoring and preventive maintenance mitigated further damage. Chairs and tower assemblies were removed and the haul rope was de-tensioned in the spring.

Mountain bike summer programming was moved to the bike skills park at South Bear Creek Park nearby the Bear Paw Par 3 Golf Course, which Nitehawk manages.

Clarkson said ski hill personnel will continue to collaborate with industry partners on reciprocal ticket discount arrangements for Nitehawk Membership holders.

“We’ll be working with municipal stakeholders and the community in our efforts to get this important recreation and tourist venue back on track,” says Nitehawk Board President Whitney Wild. “We look forward to returning to full activity even stronger and more resilient than ever.”

A Landslide Recovery Fund was established to assist with the costs of rehabilitating the ski hill. The first phase includes Nitehawk’s Annual Comedy Nite and an online $10,000 50-50 draw.
