Two of the biggest names in Contemporary Christian Music have found a creative way to continue to tour in the midst of COVID-19.

Newsboys United and TobyMac recently announced they will each be going on their own separate tours this summer. The twist is that they'll be using drive-in theatres.

Each tour is going through 16 cities in the southern United States. There are no Canadian dates at this time.

“A few Saturday nights every summer my family and I head to a local drive-in movie theatre,” says TobyMac in a statement. “We always love it. When we started discussing live shows in this quarantine season and the idea of playing drive-ins came up, I said, ‘Let’s go.’ It feels like summer, safe for everybody, and we all get to enjoy live music again. We ’bout to make some memories.”

There will be a live stage where the band performs at each of the shows, and the concert will also be simulcast on to the drive-in screen.

“COVID-19 has changed all of our lives, but through it, we have learned that love is patient and love is kind,” says Newsboys United lead singer Michael Tait. “Now we have the opportunity to come together safely and express our love for our creator who has been with us through these trying times.”

Tickets are $100 (USD) for general admission with up to six people allowed per vehicle and $175 for VIP tickets. At theatres with two screens, a $75 option is available for vehicles without a view of the live stage.
