On March 6th, close to midnight the Grande Prairie Fire Department responded to a high hazard fire alarm at Isabel Campbell School. Upon arrival, fire crews were met by janitorial staff who indicated that the fire alarm had activated and there was a smell of smoke in the school. Fire crews discovered a fire in the wood shop. A functioning building sprinkler system controlled the fire and kept it from spreading. Fire damage was limited to the wood shop and school district maintenance continued to work through the night to clean up water.

There were no injuries during this incident and building fire protection systems functioned as designed.

The cause of this fire is currently being investigated. Parents will receive communication from school administration as to when students can return.
