The wildfire danger for the Slave Lake forest area has been reduced from Extreme to Very High.

The area North of Lesser Slave Lake received a small amount of rain last night, and rain is in the long term forcast. However, the hot and dry conditions will require a significant amount of rain for the area to be out of danger.

A fire ban and off-highway vehicle ban still remains in effect for the entire forest area.

The McMillan Wildfire Complex did receive a small amount of rain yesterday and firefighters reported a decrease in fire behavior. The wildfire did not experience growth.

The McMillan Complex includes four wildfires, all considered out of control. The largest is 246,603 hectares, with the others being 137, 187 and 860.

The wildfires are:

  • 4.9 and 3.3 kilometres west of Wabasca No. 166B and 166D
  • 26.5 kilometres northeast of Marten Beach
  • 32.8 kilometres northeast of Slave Lake
  • 9.3 kilometres southeast of Trout Lake
