In recognition, students across GPPSD will be encouraged by their schools to help create awareness and show their support by wearing a hat for Hats On! For Mental Health Day.

“One of our priorities as a school division is to see students prepared academically, socially, and emotionally to complete high school,’ explains Sandy McDonald, Superintendent of Schools. “Creating opportunities to focus on positive mental health is just one of the ways to help students learn what it looks like, and to be better prepared to complete high school.”

“Giving students the space to learn about themselves and those around them is central to our priority of Inclusion,” says Nancy Gorgichuk, Director of Inclusive Learning at GPPSD. “Research tells us students who have good mental health are more resilient. In the classroom, that looks like a student who learns easily and can build healthy relationships  - ultimately succeeding in their own unique way. That’s what we want for each of our students.”

This annual event takes place during Mental Health Week, which is May 1-7th, a time when all Albertans are encouraged to learn more about their own mental health and support resources.
