Grande Prairie City Council is inviting the community to Council’s Interfaith Breakfast for the first time since 2019.

The event brings together residents and faith leaders from across religious backgrounds to gather, build community, and hear from a speaker.

The event occurs on October 4 at 7 a.m. at Teresa Sargent Hall and tickets are available online for $20 at the Bonnetts Energy Centre Box Office.

“Council’s Interfaith Breakfast allows us to foster an ongoing connection with Grande Prairie’s faith communities and continue our work towards an inclusive and caring community,” said Jackie Clayton, City of Grande Prairie Mayor. “Council is eager to welcome Grande Prairie’s faith leaders and residents to this much-anticipated event to connect and discuss important topics about our community.”

This year’s keynote speaker is Pastor Mike Vanboom, an advocate and educator for alternative housing models who will be sharing a message on the role of faith in housing and homelessness and his experience as a founding signatory for Edmonton’s Interfaith Housing Initiative.

The initiative began in 2011 as a formal gathering of diverse faith communities working together to address housing and homelessness in Edmonton. Their collaboration includes Muslim, Sikh, Jewish, and Unitarian communities, serving alongside many different Christian churches including Catholic, Anglican, Pentecostal, Lutheran, Baptist, Mennonite, Alliance and Reformed.
