Two more influenza deaths this past week, have brought the provincial total to 34 this flu season.

Alberta Health services most recent report shows one death occured in the Edmonton zone bringing their total to 15, the highest in the province, and one more for the Southern zone for a total of 5 influenza related deaths.

In the Calgary zone there have been 8 influenza deaths, 481 hospitalizations and 2,739 lab confirmed cases of the virus.

The Calgary zone also has the highest number of vaccinations to date, sitting at 609,011 this week.

Provincially there have been 7,173 lab confirmed cases of influenza, 34 deaths and 1,397,843 vaccinations given.

Doctors say getting immunized is a great way to protect yourself from the flu, however washing your hands often and self isolating or staying home when you're sick is also very important when it comes to reducing risk.
