Peace River Bible Institute and Rising Above are partnering together to create a faith-based addictions treatment track that will equip people to help others who are stuck in cycles of defeat.

Brad Cowie, Academic Dean at PRBI says, “A few years ago we started talking about doing something with Rising Above. We always want to be part of the community and connect with other churches and parachurch organizations in the Grande Prairie area when we can.”

PRBI is a Bible College in Sexsmith which trains students in a thorough knowledge of the Word of God to become ministers, both at home and abroad.

Cowie says, it just seemed like a good fit to take the foundation of ministry training and discipleship offered at PRBI and create a course that would offer addictions counselling training on top of it.

Rising Above is a faith-based treatment Centre, that is committed to helping people break cycles of defeat.

Mel Siggelkow, Executive Director of Rising Above says, “We’re looking at helping as many people as possible, and by equipping our future leaders, pastors, and missionaries to do this kind of work, we’re in a very unique situation here in Grande Prairie to impact the world.”

The first course called “Healing Soul Wounds” starts on September 14, 2021, from 6:30-8:30pm at PRBI.  The course is being offered to students, as well as community participants who would like to be able to take some of this practical training and use it.
