Local non-profit and community groups are invited to apply for funding from the County of Grande Prairie’s annual roadside clean-up program. Applications for the program open on February 1.

“The benefits of this annual program are twofold in that our County roadsides receive an annual clean-up, and it provides valued support to local organizations,” said Jennifer Besinger, Technical Services Manager. “The groups who take part gain hands-on experience in caring for our environment while making a positive impact in their communities.”

In 2021, 32 non-profit groups cleaned nearly 285 kilometres of County roadsides, collected approximately 12 tonnes of litter, and raised $53,215 for their organizations.

This year’s program will run in the month of May, subject to public health guidelines. Participating groups pick litter along County roadways, ditches, and Hamlets in exchange for funding. Groups follow health and safety regulations, including safety vests, gloves, roadside signage, and other relevant public health guidelines.

Applications are open until 4:30 p.m. on Friday, March 25. For details and to apply to the Roadside Clean-up Program, visit www.countygp.ab.ca/roadsidecleanup
