The Grande Prairie Storm is pleased to announce goaltender Connor Mackenzie has committed to play Division 1 Hockey at University of Vermont.

Mackenzie had a stellar career on the Storm, being named the AJHL Top Goaltender and the team MVP this season. He was also selected as the Viterra AJHL Star of the Game 13 times.

In addition to his accomplishments on the ice, Mackenzie initiated his “Lift the Mask on Mental Health” campaign, which brought Connor and his teammates into dozens of local classrooms to discuss and reduce the stigma associated with mental health. He raised over $40,000 for the Canadian Mental Health Association of Northwest Alberta.

Head coach Eric Thurston said, “We are all very excited for Connor. He has worked very hard to take his game to the next level. We truly wish him all the best and look forward to watching him play D1 hockey in Vermont.”

Connor is excited for the next step in his hockey career, and said, “Thank you to everyone within the Storm organization and the community of Grande Prairie for supporting me throughout my journey and helping me achieve my dream of playing division 1 college hockey! All the support and belief from everyone definitely does not go unappreciated.”

On behalf of the Storm organization and the fans, we congratulate Connor and wish him the best of luck as he heads to Vermont.
