Alberta Wildfire has issued a fire advisory for the Grande Prairie Forest Area.

The wildfire danger for the area is moderate, and they warn that high wind can cause extreme fire behavior and allow fires to spread easily.

With the fire advisory, all existing fire permits are still valid, but new permits will be issued on a case-by-case basis, only for essential burning.

All burning, except for campfires, is prohibited if you don’t have a valid permit.

Alberta Wildfire reminds people to never leave their campfires unattended, and to soak, stir and soak again until cool to the touch to put them out.

They also provide tips for preventing fires when working with equipment.

“When operating equipment, clear debris from moving parts, check your muffler and keep equipment in good repair. Do not operate equipment in tall grass. Keep watch of your surroundings and ensure you have sufficient firefighting equipment and water available. Equipment fires or work related sparks, friction and hot exhaust can cause even small amounts of dry fuels to ignite into a wildfires and spread easily.”

Wildfires should be reported by calling 310-FIRE.
