Several Dawson Creek teams have competed in a variety of Alberta Provincial Curling Championships this winter.
Junior curlers Jaxon Embree and Carter Scott qualified in the province’s top 5 to reach the provincials, then placed first and second in the 9-10-year-old age category.
In the Men’s category, Tristan Steinke plays third for Team Sturmay and won second place in the Alberta Provincial Boston Pizza Cup final in Westlock on Feb. 9th.
In the Senior Womens’ category, DC’s Team Maxwell (Marlene Maxwell, Marg Redlick of Grande Prairie, Brenda Ginter and Cheryl Ireland) competed for a provincial title in Lacombe February 12-16.
Team Ginter (Jeff Ginter, Tracy Steinke, Kevin Turner of FSJ and George Parsons of Edmonton) also competed in the Alberta Senior Mens Championship in Lacombe. They finished 3rd in the semi-finals.
In Master’s (60+) competition, John Inkster qualified for the provincial championships, March 4-8 in Airdrie, with Team Griffith of Grande Prairie.
Two more provincial curling events are coming up, both featuring teams from the Dawson Creek Curling Club.
Two Dawson Creek teams will be heading to the Alberta Provincial Mixed Championship, Mar 25-29 in Black Diamond.
Qualifying as the regional A winner was Team Ginter - Jason, Brenda, Jeff and Kelsey Ginter.
Team Roszmann (Glenn Roszmann, Kayla Giovannini, Travis Jones and Dakota Inkster) qualified at the Mixed Regional B winner.
Closing out the competitive season is the inaugural Curling Alberta U15 Provincial Championship in Rocky Mountain House, on April 2-5. Team Patterson (Casey Patterson, Blake Willich, Carson Freeman, Kaelyn Jones, Peyton Freeman & Coaches Tiffany Hetenyi and Cody Hegge) will represent Dawson Creek.
