The Peace Wapiti Public School Division (PWPSD) announced on April 8 that have been two more positive COVID-19 cases found, one at Peace Wapiti Academy (PWA) and one at Clairmont Community School (CCS).

The case at CCS was last at school on Tuesday, March 30. All close contacts are already isolating until Wednesday, April 14 due to a previous case. Since there are no additional close contacts stemming from this case, and the end of isolation remains unchanged, letters to families were not required.

CCS was moved to outbreak status earlier this week, with five to nine cases. An outbreak is reported when five or more cases are confirmed in an investigation, where the disease could have been acquired or transmitted in the school. An outbreak investigation is considered over when there have been no new confirmed cases in the school for 28 days.

The case at PWA was last at school on Wednesday, March 31. Close contacts will isolate until Tuesday, April 13 (close contact on March 29); Wednesday, April 14 (close contact on March 30); or Thursday, April 15 (close contact on March 31). The case is part of the group that is already isolating due to close contact with another case.

At home learning will be available to students who have to isolate beyond Easter break.

The schools will keep taking necessary measures to protect staff and students. Disinfection of the schools has taken place.

To respect their privacy, no further information about the cases will be released.

Alberta Health currently has three schools in the County listed as on outbreak, and 11 in the City of Grande Prairie. Three schools in the County are on alert, with two to four cases, and four in the City.

The list is available online, on the COVID-19 school status map page.
