The County of Grande Prairie Regional Fire Services has issued a fire advisory for the entire County, along with the towns of Beaverlodge, Sexsmith and Wembley.

The fire advisory is in effect due to hot, dry conditions making it dangerous for all types of burning. Residents who have existing fire permits are advised not to burn until the area receives precipitation. Those who must burn should follow permit guidelines and safe burning practices, including always remaining on site until burning is complete.

Burning is not permitted when winds reach, or are forecasted to reach, 12 km per hour or higher. Residents are required to have equipment and a sufficient water supply on site to extinguish the fire.

Be vigilant when exploring back country locations across the County, as the fire risk is high in all areas.

The County will continue to monitor weather conditions heading into the long weekend. Any updates will be posted to the County website.
