The County, in partnership with the Alberta Recycling Management Authority (ARMA), invites residents to its Annual Recycling Roundup at the Clairmont Centre for Recycling & Waste Management, located north of Township Road 724 on Range Road 63, on Saturday, June 12, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Residents are encouraged to bring their household hazardous waste including cleaners, chemicals, paint, batteries, used oil, propane tanks under 100 lb. and tires; and electronics including computer equipment, TVs, cell phones, appliances, power tools, toys, audio visual equipment, musical instruments, and more to be recycled and/or safely disposed of free-of-charge. Recycling bins for tin, paper, cardboard, glass, refundable bottles will also be available.

Proceeds from refundable bottles will go towards the County’s Bottle Donation Program, which supports local non-profit and charitable organizations.

Anyone who stops by with recyclables can enter to win prizes, including a Home Composter or a County Gift basket.

“It is important that we all do our part to keep as many items as possible out of our landfills,” said Jennifer Besinger, County Technical Services Manager. “There are so many programs available that make it easy to recycle and safely dispose of items like paint, tires, used oil, household hazardous material, and electronic waste. This event also provides an opportunity to find out more about our expanded electronic recycling program and get all the answers to all your recycling questions.”

“When municipalities like the County of Grande Prairie continually provide opportunities for its residents to do the right thing by encouraging a culture of recycling through roundup events, it makes our job at ARMA easier in our new vision of working towards a future without waste,” commented Ed Gugenheimer, Chief Executive Officer of ARMA.

Roundup events not only contribute to keeping waste out of our landfills, but the materials brought in to be recovered and recycled also work towards a future without waste by returning them into feedstock material used in the manufacturing process of new products. Many products get recycled into new paint products, lubricant oils for the transportation industry, flooring for arenas, crumb for new playgrounds, new electronic products, and more.

County residents unable to attend the Recycling Roundup, can drop off hazardous waste and recyclable items free-of-charge to the Clairmont Centre for Recycling and Waste Management and other facilities during regular hours of operation.
