Effective immediately, the County of Grande Prairie Regional Fire Service has issued a Fire Advisory for the entire County, along with the towns of Beaverlodge, Sexsmith and Wembley and the Village of Hythe.

The Fire Advisory is in effect due to high winds and warm, dry conditions throughout the County. Residents who have existing permits are advised not to burn as the warm, dry weather and gusting winds increases the fire hazard in the region. No new permits will be issued until further notice. Burning is not permitted when winds reach 12 km per hour or higher.

What is allowed:

  • Safe wood campfires in campgrounds (within fire rings), backyards, or random camping areas
  • Charcoal briquettes
  • Portable propane fire pits
  • Gas or propane stoves and barbecues
  • Catalytic or infrared-style heaters

Albert Wildfire says: "Never leave a campfire unattended. Soak it, stir it and soak it again until cool to the touch to ensure it is extinguished. If you see a wildfire, report it immediately by calling 310-FIRE."
