The County of Grande Prairie, in partnership with the Alberta Recycling Management Authority (ARMA), is inviting residents to its Annual Recycling Roundup on Saturday, September 9, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Hythe Curling Club, located at 10020 - 101 Avenue in the hamlet.

Residents are encouraged to bring their household hazardous waste including cleaners, chemicals, paint, batteries, used oil, propane tanks under 100 lbs and tires to the event to be disposed of safely and free of charge.  Electronics including computer equipment, TVs, cell phones, appliances, power tools, toys, audio visual equipment, musical instruments and other items can also be recycled at the event.

Recycling bins for tin, paper, cardboard, glass and refundable bottles will also be available. Proceeds from all refundable bottles will go towards the County’s Bottle Donation Program, which supports local non-profit and charitable organizations.

“This annual event is a great way for our residents to safely and effectively dispose of everyday items that don’t belong in the landfill, like household hazardous waste, electronics, appliances and more,” says Kate Biendarra Recycling Coordinator for the County of Grande Prairie. “By disposing of these items correctly, we are diverting waste from our landfills, reducing our carbon footprint and giving items that we no longer need a new life.”

Anyone who stops by the event with recyclables can enter to win prizes, including a propane fire pit and a County gift basket filled with environmentally friendly and local items.
