The City of Grande Prairie is proud to unveil its newly installed north and west side entrance features today.

The new north entrance feature is located south of 132 Avenue on Highway 43, with the new west entrance feature at the south east corner of Highway 43 and Range Road 71. The signs have been designed and installed to reflect our growing and diverse community.

The new entrance signs are significant as they provide the first introduction and impression of Grande Prairie to visitors, potential investors and future residents. Having an inviting sign boosts civic pride, makes our city more attractive and benefits our local community socially and economically.

To ensure the signs were representative of our community, a multi-stage public engagement project was completed in 2019 to inform the final design. Residents were first asked to share ideas about what Grande Prairie means to them, what they love about the community, and what features they would like to see in the new signs. That feedback was submitted to a professional designer who drafted conceptual designs, which the community then voted on.

A total of $150,000 was allocated under the City’s capital budget to complete both entrance signs, as well as to help support an update to the pre-existing welcome sign leading into the downtown core from 99 Avenue.

The City thanks all community members who participated in the public engagement project to help inform the final design of the features and looks forward to welcoming both residents and visitors alike with the new, vibrant features.
