The City of Grande Prairie and Grande Prairie & District Chamber of Commerce are proud to announce a collaborative community enhancement project to recognize the 20th anniversary of Centre 2000.

The Grande Prairie sundial located at Centre 2000 is now able to display custom coloured lights to mark special days, celebrations, or causes as requested by community groups. Red and green are the inaugural colours chosen to mark the holiday season.

Centre 2000 is an important community asset, jointly operated by the City and Chamber. The sundial lighting is one of many upcoming initiatives approved by the Centre 2000 operating board to recognize the community builders who came together 20 years ago to fund and build Centre 2000.

“The community has been asking for a public way to recognize their events,” said Grande Prairie Mayor, Bill Given “We know holiday celebrations look different this year, for that reason, we are excited to share this enhancement and bring a display of light to the community in the days leading up to Christmas.”

“Together, we wish you a happy holiday season and encourage all residents to drive by the Grande Prairie sundial while you are touring Christmas lights across the city,” said Chair of the Chamber Board, Larry Gibson. “We look forward to receiving community requests and seeing the sundial display many colours in the new year.”

Community groups interested in marking special occasions may request to reserve the lighting display by calling Centre 2000 at 780-513-0240 or submitting an online request on centre2000.ca/contact/sundial-light-up
