Grande Prairie, Alberta welcomed The Salvation Army in April 1919. 

"Our first officers were Captain Evelyn Gain and Lt. Martha Neilson. They were followed by Captain Ervine Waterston in the fall of 1919. Bramwell Booth, the eldest son of William and Catherine Booth, was the General. Grande Prairie had recently become a town with a population of 1040. The community of Grande Prairie has been and continues to be a generous and supportive home; and the Lord’s work has thrived." (The Salvation Army Grande Prairie).

The anniversary celebrations will be taking place on Saturday and Sunday this weekend. 

On Saturday at 11: 30 am a special hot cooked meal with be served for those the Salvation Army serves in our community at the Family Services building. Following will be live music from the Music and Gospel Arts brass band from Toronto. From 1:00 - 3:00 pm there will be a picture memorial at the Salvation Army Church to view the history of the Salvation Army in Grande Prairie. Tea from David's Tea will be provided.

At 6:00 pm will be banquet at the Pomeroy Hotel. The event will feature the Music and Gospel Arts brass band again, a time of celebration and guest speakers. Tickets for the banquet are $45 and available through the Salvation Army office - call 780-538-2848.

On Sunday, April 24th at 10:30 am will be a worship service at the Salvation Army Church. Our divisional commander will be there to celebrate. The service will include a flag dedication, dedication of a new grand piano, and the new name for the church - the Salvation Army Grande Prairie Community Church.  A potluck, cake cutting, coffee, & tea will be held after the service.
