Tuesday evening (Sept. 22) at around 6 p.m., Parks Canada Visitor Safety personnel utilizing a helicopter located two bodies in the Verdant Pass area in Jasper National Park.

Given the remote location and the loss of daylight, recovery efforts could not be completed at that time.

Recovery efforts continued Wednesday morning and Jasper RCMP, along with Parks Canada Visitor Safety personnel, recovered two bodies which are believed to be the missing couple, Matthew Kozak and Zabrina Ferrier, last seen on Friday, Sept. 18.

Jasper RCMP along with the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner continue to investigate. It is believed the couple were hiking and succumbed to their injuries after falling from a steep bank in the area.

Family members have been advised and police are asking media to respect their need for privacy during this difficult time.
