Samaritan’s Purse and Billy Graham chaplains will be traveling to Australia to aid those who have lost their homes and possessions in the wildfires.

Eight Canadians from Samaritan’s Purse Canada will be departing for Australia on January 11th in three different regions that have been burning for nearly 4 months. Fires in the area have scorched more than 15 million acres of land.

“As we pray for rain, we are equipped and eager to send Canadian resources and experience to help families recover from these fires,” says Brent Davis, Samaritan’s Purse’s director of Canadian ministry projects.

In the past, Samaritan’s Purse has helped the people in Fort McMurray, Alberta during a wildfire in 2016. Their work included removing debris from damaged properties and sifting through ashes in an attempt to find any items that may have been untouched by the flames.

The Billy Graham Evangelistic Association was founded in 1950 and was created in order to share the good news of Jesus Christ with millions of people every year.

Three Billy Graham Rapid Response Team chaplains will be helping Australian chaplains provide spiritual and emotional aid to those who have been impacted by the wildfires.

"We know the level of devistation wildfires bring to Canada. Our hearts break as we see their impact across Australia."

“The need is great for people willing to provide a compassionate, listening ear and, if requested, prayers,” says Merle Doherty, who manages the Rapid Response Team.

Billy Graham chaplains have responded to multiple international tragedies over the years in order to provide spiritual support in the name of Jesus.
