Residents can now apply to build and maintain small skating rinks in their neighbourhoods this winter through the Neighbourhood Outdoor Rink Program.

The Neighbourhood Outdoor Rink Program is a free opportunity where the City of Grande Prairie provides approved applicants with the supplies to install and maintain small skating rinks in parks located near their homes.

To apply, residents must have a group of five committed volunteers to build and maintain the rinks and specify a location for installation. Parks Operations will provide training on rink installation and maintenance, and will complete monthly hazard assessments of each build.

Interested applicants are encouraged to start applying now, as it is recommended that all rinks be fully constructed before the ground freezes and there is significant snow on the ground. The last date to submit an application is Saturday, December 15.
