In today’s COVID-19 update, Dr. Hinshaw reported 6106 recoveries in the province and 679 active cases. This is the fewest we’ve had since March 30.

There are 43 people in hospital with the virus and four of these in intensive care. Of 3168 cases in the last 24 hours, 25 new cases have been identified. There have been two new deaths.

Two more cases have been identified in the City of Grande Prairie, making five active and three recovered.

reatments like steroids. Reported cases involve children with recent infection of COVID-19 with symptoms developing several weeks to a month after infection. It involves inflammation of multiple organs including kidney, heart, blood vessels and nervous system. Fever is a key feature, but it can also involve rash, vomiting, diarrhea and abdominal pain.

Dr. Hinshaw recognized that this might be worrying for parents but assures Albertans that it is rare and treatable. Most children who are infected with COVID-19 will not get it.

They are making it reportable to help watch for cases and understand it better. They are developing guidelines being aligned with global reporting standards to help in diagnosing and reporting.

Dr. Hinshaw says that as we learn more about COVID-19, we are reminded we need to be cautious in relaunch and know we are not alone in the world dealing with it.

We also can't forget this summer that COVID-19 was and is a deadly disease.

At height of global deaths, Dr. Hinshaw says that the global weekly death toll was higher than lung cancer, road injuries, diabetes, or suicide. There have been 142 deaths in Alberta, which is one and a half times higher than highest annual influenza deaths in the last five years, and we have never done more to prevent the spread of influenza.

Dr. Hinshaw says it is on all of us to look out for each other and protect the most vulnerable.

It is inconvenient and awkward to adjust to changes like wearing masks or staying home when sick, but when we remember why – to prevent illness and death, it helps us to remember why our actions matter.
