Yesterday, Peace Wapiti Public School Division (PWPSD) was advised of one new confirmed case of COVID-19 at Harry Balfour School, and one at Whispering Ridge Community School.
Out of respect for the individuals, and in accordance with Alberta Health Services (AHS) guidelines, no further information will be shared about the cases. Schools have been disinfected, and close contacts have been notified. In-person learning continues at HBS; week-long shift to at-home learning ongoing at WRCS. PWPSD, HBS and WRCS wish the individuals a safe and speedy recovery, and will continue to work closely with AHS to ensure necessary measures are in place to protect all students and staff.
An outbreak has now been declared at Peace Wapiti Academy based on two past confirmed cases of COVID-19.
Public Health staff are investigating to determine who may have been exposed during the infectious period. The risk of the general population in the school becoming infected because of these cases is low. If staff or students have been identified as a close contact of a confirmed case, Public Health will contact them directly for follow-up. If staff or students have not been identified as a close contact of a confirmed COVID-19 case but develop symptoms as listed on the daily screening tool, please self-isolate at home and complete the AHS COVID-19 online assessment tool, or call Health Link at 811 as soon as possible to arrange for COVID-19 testing.
