The wildfire danger has been raised from low to moderate for the Grande Prairie Forest Area.

Alberta Wildfire warns that, “Fall is a time of year when cool frosty mornings and breezy afternoons produce frost-killed vegetation that ignites easily and can spread fast in windy weather.”

Alberta Wildfire continues to remind everyone to be diligent. This means when operating an off-highway vehicle to use caution, clear your hot spots, and carry a collapsible bucket and shovel. It also means ensuring campfires are out: soak it, stir it, and soak it again.

Wildfire season does not end until Oct. 31.

Since March 1, there have been 42 wildfires in the Grande Prairie Forest Area, burning more than 22 hectares. There are currently none burning in the area.
