On March 2, 2020, at 6 a.m., Whitecourt RCMP received a call of a break and enter to a towing company shop located on a rural residential property in Woodland County. The property owner had observed two males on an ATV flee the property.

Whitecourt RCMP arrived and located the two men with the help of a RCMP Police Dog Service. The men had abandoned the ATV and continued on foot into a wooded area. The suspects were arrested without incident.

Brian Mareck, age 49, and Chad Penman, age 39, both of no fixed address, have both been charged with break and enter to a business, disguised with intent to commit an offence, and possession of break-in instruments.

Both Mareck and Penman are facing separate charges of 3 counts of failing to comply with release conditions.

Following judicial hearings, both Mareck and Penman were remanded into custody and are scheduled to appear in Whitecourt Provincial Court on March 10.
