It is what many people are calling one of the "most powerful" moments ever on television and it came with heads bowed and the name of God being declared over a situation that's captured many people's attention.

Dan Orlovsky is a former NFL quarterback and is now a football analyst with ESPN. On Tuesday evening's episode of NFL Live, he and his co-hosts discussed the situation involving Damar Hamlin from the night before. Hamlin, 24, and a safety with the Buffalo Bills, went into cardiac arrest after a tackle on Cincinnati Bengals receiver Tee Higgins. After having CPR administered on the field and his heartbeat restored, Hamlin was rushed to hospital where his heartbeat again stopped and he was once again revived. Hamlin remains sedated and in critical condition.

"Maybe this is not the right thing to do but it's just on my heart that I want to pray for Damar Hamlin right now," Orlovsky said, in a moment of clearly following the prompting of the Holy Spirit not usually seen on television. "I'm going to do it out loud, I'm going to close my eyes, I'm going to bow my head and I'm just going to pray for him.

"God, we come to you in these moments that we don't understand, that are hard, because we believe that you're God and that coming to you and praying to you has impact.

"We're sad, we're angry, we want answers, but some things are unanswerable. We just want to pray, truly come to you and pray for strength for Damar, for healing for Damar, for comfort for Damar, to be with his family, to give him peace.

"If we didn't believe that prayer didn't work we wouldn't ask this of you God. I believe in prayer. We believe in prayer. We lift up Damar Hamlin's name in your name. Amen."

"Not just saying 'thoughts & prayers'"

Athletes, artists, and viewers have been responding with praise for the prayer. Even those who don't believe in God or prayer.

Joe Pompliano, an investor with nearly a half million Twitter followers, tweeted at Orlovsky, saying "Shoutout to Dan Orlovsky for not just saying thoughts & prayers but actually stopping NFL Live to bow his head, close his eyes, and pray for Damar Hamlin."

In reply to that, Orlovsky wrote: "Matthew 18:20. Let’s live out our faith for Damar. It’s not how big the faith is, but how BIG our God is."

In Matthew 18:20, Jesus says, "For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them" (NIV).

Twitter user @sean_johal wrote to Orlovsky, "I'm not a god or prayer guy but I respect the love that prayer generates for those that believe in it" and included a praying hands emoji in closing.

Christian artists such as Cain have shared the video on their social media feeds and asked their followers to also join in prayer for Hamlin.

Twitter user @bradhovs wrote, "Thanks, Dan, for living out your faith in Christ and the testimony it provided to all who watched."
