A clothing brand in the U.S. took Nike Air Max 97 sneakers, filled the soles with water from the Jordan River, had them blessed by a priest, and then put them up for sale for $3,000 USD a pair. They sold out within minutes of the launch.

MSCHF is the Brooklyn-based company responsible for the shoes. The company tells the New York Post they were originally created to show how absurd 'collab culture' has grown.

"We thought of that Arizona Iced Tea and Adidas collab, where they were selling shoes that [advertised] a beverage company that sells iced tea at bodegas," Greenberg says. "So we wanted to make a statement about how absurd collab culture has gotten.

"We were wondering, what would a collab with Jesus Christ look like?" Greenberg says. "As a Jew myself, the only thing I knew was that he walked on water."

That's why the shoes also have an inscription of Matt. 14:25 - the passage which tells the account of Jesus walking on water.

The shoes also include frankincense-scented insoles, a crucifix on the laces, and a red sole, which references the red shoes traditionally worn by past Popes.

Greenberg says the company made fewer than two dozen pairs and have no plans to make new ones.

Though the shoes are Nikes they are not affiliated with the sneaker company. MSCHF simply bought them at retail, put their own design on them, and then sold them again.
