Voting is now available for youth ages 13-24 to select winners for the Grande Prairie Youth Engagement Awards (GP YEA!) 2019 hosted by the City of Grande Prairie Youth Council. The GP YEA! are presented annually to businesses, schools and community agencies that illustrate the valuable role community plays in positive youth development in Grande Prairie.

Here are the nominees for 2019:

Youth Friendly Business of Choice (recognizes a business, service or corporation that values youth as a client or patron)

Community Engagement Award (recognizes schools or community youth agencies that promotes and takes strides to develop a positive youth culture and embraces community connectedness)

  • Montrose Cultural Centre and Grande Prairie Public Library
  • Sunrise House o Tabono Center
  • The Breakfast Club

Employer of Choice (recognizing businesses or organizations that make an effort to employ youth or young adults as part of their staffing model)

  • McDonald’s
  • Tayo Restaurant
  • Superstore

Votes can be submitted via the online form available here: cityofgp.com/yea.

The awards ceremony takes place on Monday, May 6 from 7:00 p.m.- 9:00 p.m. in the Teresa Sargent Hall in the Montrose Cultural Centre. The event is open to the public, free to attend and features live entertainment.

The City of Grande Prairie Youth Council (GPYC) is an advisory committee to City Council made up of youth between the ages of 13-24. GPYC contributes to building a society of active and engaged citizens by creating opportunities to connect youth with the civic order of governance, local organizations and each other.
