On Aug. 19, a member of the Western Alberta District RCMP Rural Crime Reduction Unit located a vehicle on the east side of Grande Prairie displaying a stolen license plate.

The vehicle was followed a short distance to a local business where a vehicle stop was conducted, and the driver was arrested.

A search of the stolen vehicle resulted in a loaded firearm, numerous edged weapons and brass knuckles—all within reach of the driver, being seized.

Avery Howard Letendre, 28, of Edmonton, is facing a total of 24 charges in relation to the incident, including unauthorized possession of a firearm, tampering with a firearm serial number, carrying concealed weapons, possessing weapons contrary to court orders and possession of property obtained by crime.

Following a judicial hearing, Letendre was remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear in Grande Prairie Provincial Court on Sept. 21.
