On Friday multiple departments of first responders including the Brooks Fire Department, Brooks EMS, the CP Police, local Peace Officers, and Brooks RCMP.  They were called to Highway 1 A and Range Road 14-3 east of Brooks, to a railway crossing.

The investigation showed that a pickup truck with 2 occupants was heading northbound on the range road and failed to yield to an oncoming west bound train when the collision occurred.  Both occupants of the truck were removed from the truck, and ground ambulance took them to the Brooks Health Centre.  While in care, the 50 year old passenger from the Lethbridge area, succumbed to his injuries and died.  Then the other 60 year old male driver of the truck, from Lethbridge, was air lifted via Halo Air Ambulance to Foothills Hospital in Calgary with critical, life threatening injuries.

A RCMP Collision Re-constructionist assisted in the investigation, and shut down the road for about 3 hours during the scene investigation.  Both roads have since re-opened.  The train had minimal damage, and no occupants on the train were injured.
