The Town of Sexsmith has declared a state of local emergency in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

This enables the town to enact additional powers to combat the spread of the virus, ensure the stability of core services, and support the community.

“In light of the fact that the City of Grande Prairie has declared a state of local emergency, the Town is doing the same in order to be proactive and recognize that as a region we need to work together to deal with this situation,” says Mayor Kate Potter.

“We are a community and need to continue to help and support each other. I have been amazed by all the personal offer and innovative community initiatives. It is this type of response that helps us all navigate this difficult situation.

“We are not alone in our Province making this declaration. The declaration will help us act quickly should the need arise. All core services will continue to run to ensure you are protected and we can mitigate risks.

“We will continue to work with our partners GPREP (Grande Prairie Regional Emergency Partnership) to offer the best care for all of our residents.”
