In order to reduce risk in the community the Town of Peace River has closed some public facilities.

These include the Peace Regional Pool, Baytex Energy Centre, and Peace River Museum, Archives, and Mackenzie Centre.

Those who booked rental space will be contacted regarding receiving refunds.

The Low-Income Senior’s Tax Filing event scheduled for Wednesday March 18 at Heritage Towers has been cancelled. Alternate arrangements can be made for those who were planning to attend by calling (780) 623-1000 ext. 1030. The program itself is still going forward.

Peace River has activated their Emergency Coordination Centre (ECC) to manage their response locally. Their focus is on the provision of critical services, such as water and wastewater treatment, as well as fire and protective services.

The town office will remain open for the time being with regular hours of operation.

The Town has said, “These measures are being taken out of an abundance of caution to support the public health goals of Alberta Health surrounding COVID-19 and to reduce the strain on our healthcare system. We understand the inconvenience this will cause and are only taking this measure after careful consideration.”

Information on the Town’s preparation, provision of services, the status of facilities, or other announcements can be found at peaceriver.ca/covid19.
