The Queen of England is preparing for the Royal Family's 75th annual Christmas Broadcast to the Commonwealth on Christmas Day.

This year's address. like all others, will take place on Christmas Day. Fans of the Royal Family can watch it on social media or watch on the BBC. The Queen's speech is expected to last ten minutes.

The first Christmas Broadcast was given by the Queen's grandfather, King George V in 1932 through the radio. The broadcast addressed the marvels of modern technology and the ability to communicate while "linked in closer union" with the British Empire's various lands. Fittingly, the first radio program ever aired exactly 27 years and a day earlier on Christmas Eve in 1906 when Reginald Fessenden played Christmas music for sailors passing on their ships.

The Queen herself has three Christmas Broadcast firsts. In 1957, her Christmas Broadcast was the first to be televised, 1969 was the first year the broadcast was skipped, and 2015 the first time a video of the Christmas Broadcast was posted on social media by the Royal Family's Facebook page. In 1969, the documentary Royal Family aired instead of a Christmas Broadcast, at the Queen's request.

Those wishing to watch this year's address can view it on all of the Royal Family's social media accounts on Christmas morning at 9 a.m. Central Time.

Tradition is strong in the British Royal family and those who follow them were delighted by another first, a Christmas GIF. The Sussex House shared a Christmas GIF featuring their newest addition, their son Archie. The family circulated their greeting online instead of mailing physical cards. In another new tradition, the family is spending the holiday in the Duchess's home Country, Canada.
