Pastor Don Wilkerson has recovered from the coronavirus after coming down with the virus in early March.

Wilkerson, the co-founder of Teen Challenge and brother of the late David Wilkerson, says he first became ill with pneumonia after returning from a trip to the Brooklyn Teen Challenge chapter early last month.

The pastor says he could hardly walk or talk and he was rushed to the hospital to be tested for COVID-19, reports CBN News.

Doctors performed the test and sent Wilkerson home to await his results with Tylenol for his fever. A week later, Wilkerson learned he had tested positive.

By the time he learned his results, however, Wilkerson had become very ill. He was again taken to hospital and prescribed hydroxychloroquine.

Wilkerson says he okayed the drug, which is still in the testing phase.

The next morning, the pastor says he felt much better.

"I started to cry and I called my wife Cynthia, and I said, 'Honey I can taste, I can taste,' three times I said 'I can taste.' I was like a little kid," says Wilkerson.

A few days later, Wilkerson returned home. He is the only person associated with Brooklyn's Teen Challenge to have contracted COVID-19.

Men at Teen Challenge in Brooklyn continue to actively serve their community in the midst of the coronavirus pandemic.

"People have called, they need food, so our students will tell them what we have, pack it in a container, and either drive it to them or take it to them," says Wilkerson.

Wilkerson estimates the group has received about 20 tons of food as they are a distribution centre.
