Ontario's Fire Marshal is investigating a fire in the Ontario town of Roseneath after a fire destroyed St. James Anglican Church in that town.

It's the third fire in the town in one month.

The Alnwick/Haldimand Fire Chief Mark Diminie told NorthumberlandNews.com that all three fires had similar details surrounding them, including occurring at the same time of the evening, and all being vacant buildings at the time.

“Based on the fact that we have had two (fires) in the last month, this being the third one ... I am going to call it suspicious,” he said. “Just based on having a vacant building at 10:30 or 11 p.m. at night and the fact it is the third one in a month, we are going to treat it as suspicious until hopefully, we can prove otherwise.”

The Fire Chief told the newspaper that the church was an active one, with regular Sunday services each week.

Damage has been estimated at $500,000.
