A fire Thursday evening (Feb 1, 2024) caused extensive damage to the exterior of a downtown building that contains residential suites and a business.

The Grande Prairie Fire Department responded to reports of a dumpster fire which quickly spread to the exterior of the building. The building was temporarily evacuated for several hours as crews worked on the fire, but no homes were lost or injuries occurred as a result of the fire.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation by the Grande Prairie Fire Department and the RCMP. The construction of the building, the sprinkler system, and the quick action of the first arriving engine company all contributed to bringing the fire under control.
