Grande Prairie snow removal crews are transitioning into winter operations and crews are prepared to begin sanding and plowing priority roads in response to any forecasted snowfall.

Full winter operations are anticipated to begin on November 6, 2022.

The City of Grande Prairie conducts snow removal in three different ways:

• Priority Road Clearing - Plowing and ice control of roadways with high traffic volumes (priority 1 and 2 roads) to ensure access for emergency vehicles, transit buses, and residents. Plowing and sanding of priority 3 roads occurs upon completion of priority 1 and 2 roads.

• Residential Road Clearing - Plowing and ice control of residential roads when snow accumulates or when there is a significant snowfall. Occurs in a two-week rotation only when declared.

• Rural Service Area Clearing – Clearing and ice control of 40 km in the Rural Service Area on an as-needed basis.

About Residential Snow Clearing

Residential snow clearing occurs in two-week rotations when declared and is completed by contracted snow removal crews from Monday to Friday between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. when there is a significant build-up of snow.

NEW Week A and Week B

The City has assigned neighbourhoods to a "week A" and "week B" schedule when residential snow clearing is declared to increase the accuracy of the information provided. Residential snow clearing still occurs in a two-week rotation, and the snow removal day assigned to a neighbourhood remains the same.

When a round of residential snow removal is declared by the City, crews will clear all residential roads (week A and week B) within a two-week rotation.
