A family's choice to follow Christ in Veitnam has brought them serious harm.

Open Doors has reported that a family of three from Vietnam is now recovering after a brutal attack.

Having recently converted to Christianity, a couple and their six-year-old daughter were forcibly removed from their home in a northern Vietnam village and beaten.

The extent of their injuries is devastating. So badly beaten, the couple's daughter fell into a coma, from which she has since awoken. She still, however, cannot remember the incident or recognize her parents.

In their conversion, the family had stopped a form of ancestor worship, which was a village practice. This decision angered their neighbors and local authorities. The family remained stoic in their faith and as such, faced violent consequences.

Open Doors and Premier report that the family was "mocked, tied with ropes and severely beaten while being dragged over rocky grounds towards the entrance of the village." They were then forced to leave but were welcomed by members of their church who brought them to a nearby hospital. Here, the family received treatment for three days.

The family's pastor spoke with authorities from their village regarding the family's return to their village. They have since returned home where they continue to face threats and aggression from fellow villagers.

On the Open Doors World Watch List, Vietnam is ranked in the 20th position for persecution against Christianity, with the government paying close attention to all faith activity.
