On Oct. 15, B.C. announced 142 new cases of COVID-19, with 1,494 and 9,257 recoveries.

Two cases were reported in the Northern Health region, which has 11 active cases and 331 recoveries. One person in the region is hospitalized and in intensive care.

Provincially right now, 74 people are hospitalized, with 24 of these in intensive care. There were no new deaths reported and the total is 250.

Every Thursday, the province reports on how many new cases were found in each health delivery area in the past two weeks. Northeast B.C. had just six cases reported from Oct. 2 to 15, with 140 reported since the beginning of the pandemic. This is three more than last Thursday’s reported total or 137.

In the Oct 15 update, B.C.’s first confirmed case of multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C) was reported in a child under the age of five years. The child was under investigation after showing symptoms of the syndrome and was confirmed with MIS-C when a COVID-19 serology test returned positive. The child has fully recovered and is at home.

In total, 16 other children have been investigated for possible MIS-C but did not have it.

Dr. Bonnie Henry reminds British Columbians to get their influenza vaccine this fall, which is starting to be available in the province.

“Make this a part of your fall activities and be sure to get your vaccine before the end of November. To find a clinic and book your appointment, visit: www.immunizebc.ca

“Everyone in B.C. has a role to play in our COVID-19 response. Through simple steps, like washing our hands regularly and getting our influenza vaccine, we can all make a difference. Do your part today and help to protect our communities this fall and winter.”
