In Alberta today (Dec. 14), 1,887 new cases of COVID-19 are being reported from 20,416 tests.  

There are now 21,123 active cases in the province and 60,130 recoveries. 

There’s been 24 more COVID-related deaths reported, for a total of 733 since the start of the pandemic.  

Currently, 716 Albertans are in the hospital, with 136 of these in intensive care. In the North Zone, the numbers are 34 with four of these in intensive care.  

Alberta had an R value, or reproduction number, of 0.98 (0.96-1.00) from Dec. 7-13. The Edmonton Zone had a value of 1.00 (0.98-1.03), Calgary Zone was 0.92 (0.90-0.95) and the rest of Alberta was 1.01 (0.98-1.06). The province is updating the R value on Mondays. This number shows whether cases are currently increasing, decreasing or staying the same (ie. the average number of people that someone infected with COVID-19 will infect). 

In Grande Prairie, one more person has died, a male in his 60s linked to the outbreak at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in North Zone. This was previously reported by Alberta Health Services. The City also had 12 people recover and six new cases added. There are now 117 active cases, 489 recoveries and death total deaths.  

In the County of Grande Prairie, three new cases were added, and one person recovered. There’s 27 active cases and 172 recoveries.
